Summary
The Shinigami realm had been stagnant longer than any death god could accurately recall. When Ryuk made his descent to the human realm the Shinigami King's attention was drawn to two highly intelligent humans and the game they were playing. Having grown bored of his realm's rot he decides to remake earth—with a few of humanities most popular mythos in mind—while allowing both Light Yagami and L Lawliet to keep their memories of the old earth.
Or: Light and L are reborn in a world where magic, dragons, and other oddities exist, and they both find themselves caught in a war over which heir among the four kingdoms should succeed the crown and rule over everything.
