    Ben Braeden just graduated and has the whole summer ahead of him before starting college in the fall. But, after him and his band play a final set, bringing Graduation to a close, they're suddenly attacked by a monstrous creature! Something deep awakens in him, long forgotten muscle memory and self-defense training kicks in, allowing Ben to defeat their foe. Though, him and his friends are not left unscathed.

    As Ben unwittingly takes on his first case as a hunter, the angel mojo responsible for his and his mother's memory loss begins to fade. Ben starts to remember. He remembers Dean Winchester, and all he wants to do is find him and fill the hole he left behind.

    When Dean and Castiel were children, they swore that they would both be dragonriders. They’d stand together on the sands for the Impression ceremony. They'd live in adjacent rooms in the Rookery, where all the baby dragons grew up. They’d fly together in the same Wing, taking down the demons that spilled from the Hellgates—the same demons that had killed Dean’s mother. And when Sam got old enough, he’d join them.

    Dean believed Castiel when Castiel said he could hear Novak, his mother’s dragon, talking—even though that was impossible. And Castiel didn’t care that Winchester, Dean’s family dragon, had a bad wing.

    It wasn't much of a plan, but it was their plan. It should have been so simple.

    But falling hopelessly in love with his best friend had never been part of Castiel's plan.

All that stands in his way is the Vigil, a night-long contemplation of his past and future in the chapel just outside the city walls. The only rules: no eating, no speaking, and no opening the door.

    Castiel's resolve falters with the return of his long-ago teenage crush, Dean. The familiar’s evergreen eyes and rainbow aura are still as captivating, but his past is shrouded in mystery, one that could hold the answer to what drove them apart all those years ago.

King Castiel is severe, aloof, and no more happy about their hasty wedding than Dean. Marital bliss is the last state either of them expects to reach, but as Dean spends more time in his new home, he and Castiel slowly begin to settle into a partnership that allows them to put the needs of their kingdom before their own feelings. The longer they spend together, though, the more those feelings develop, daring them both to wonder if they might ever be husbands in more than just name.
