So he doesn't. Not well, at least.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Or in middle school, Izuku is depressed and Katsuki is noticing. Well, will notice. Eventually.
Summary
"Why the hell are you walking like that?"
Deku stopped mid-stair at the sound of his voice booming around the mostly empty space. His scrawny shoulders tensed in his loose gakuran, and he slowly turned around with wide eyes that reminded Katsuki of a spooked deer.
"L -like what?"
"You're limping, Deku."
Or
Despite their fallout years ago, Katsuki never stopped keeping a close eye on Izuku. When he starts to notice that something isn't quite right with his former friend, he decides to take it upon himself to find out what’s going on. What he discovers is far worse than anything he could have ever imagined.
Summary
“Some things you lose forever. Some things find their way home. And some things refuse to be buried.”
Katsuki Bakugo becomes a father and a widower on the same night.
Between the grief of losing his wife, the guilt of still loving a man he can never have, the sleepless nights, the endless diapers and a hero career slipping through his fingers, Katsuki somehow finds the strength and stubbornness to build a new future - a better future - for himself and his kids.
Izuku Midoriya has been gone for seven years.
When he left Japan, he was running from heartbreak and rejection. When he returned, he was running from something much worse. Taking a teaching position at UA was supposed to be a new start, a chance to finally stop running. But the past has a way of unearthing buried things - and apparently Izuku has buried a lot. Mostly in the shape of Katsuki Bakugo.
As the two men attempt to overcome a past filled with grief, guilt and regret, they must also learn to trust each other as new threats emerge from the shadows.
Summary
“The villains we fought today,” Deku forced out between pained breaths. “What—what were their quirks?”
“Uh,” Bakugou thought for a moment. “First one had that stupid spoon shit. There was the dude with the light refraction, and then the one with the—” Bakugou cut himself off.
“What?” Deku asked desperately. “The one with the what?” Tears were beginning to blur his vision as he pressed himself closer to the porcelain wall, hoping to cool his burning skin.
“Pain projection,” Bakugou said with a frustrated expression. “Crap. We’ve got to get you help.”
——
Or, Deku gets hit by a quirk, and Bakugou is there for him.
Summary
“What drew me to you in the first place – is the way you move, Izuku.”
Katsuki skates toward him, gets close again. He grips Izuku’s chin and holds his head in place so he can continue gazing firmly into his eyes.
“It’s dark,” quiet, these words are. “Far darker than anything you’ve been given. Something burns in you, something the ice can soothe if you allow it. If you know how to let it soothe you.”
Katsuki’s thumb presses hard into Izuku’s chin as he tightens his grip and tugs Izuku closer by his face.
“I’m going to bring you to your full potential. And you will be the best.”
Alternatively: Two years after his sudden disappearance, Izuku's skating idol, Bakugou Katsuki, returns to the ice.
