    Summary

The first time Zhongli met him, it’s when he’s donning his true form drinking some water from a waterfall. The boy came out of nowhere. One second there was nobody, the next a boy toppled out of the bushes and rolled in front of Zhongli.

Zhongli looked down at the boy and said, “What mortal dares taint these lands?”

“K-K-Koschei!” the little boy yelled as he got onto his feet and nearly tripped backwards. “It’s Koschei! It’s really-”

'Koschei?' Zhongli thought in between the screams and the sobs and the irritating pleads for mercy. He straightened himself up as he glanced down at the boy. “Koschei?” he said as much. “Who are you calling Koschei?”

“Why you, of course, mister!” the boy yelled and then shrunk at Zhongli’s narrowed eyes. “The kids always talk about the Deathless who wanders in the forest and eats children’s souls. You’re Koschei!”

In which Zhongli meets a peculiar boy in the woods and, inevitably, gets entangled in what his other Archon friends would call, "mortal woes".

    Summary

It had been more than six months since Childe had last seen Zhongli. Somehow, Zhongli seemed perfectly put together, while Childe was falling apart at the seams and had been ever since they broke up. He was just as beautiful as ever, watching Childe patiently with his mouth pressed into a thin line that seemed to contain neither anger nor fondness.

    Summary

“The loss of my lord’s gnosis has caused a,” Xiao deliberates, a particularly pinched expression crossing his face that would have amused Childe greatly were the subject at hand not Zhongli, “…regression, of sorts.”

    Childe prompts, “Regression?”

If possible, Xiao’s expression pinches further, but he doesn’t reprimand Childe for his interjection. “A regression to biological urges that most adepti have learned to adapt to and control by adolescence.”

    ______

Or; While attempting to adapt to mortal life without a gnosis, the presence of a suitable mate triggers a latent rut in Zhongli.

    Summary

Fog pervades his mind. He can’t even focus long enough to look at their surroundings. His breath comes quick and shallow, and it’s all he can do to keep moving, to follow Zhongli as he weaves through the crowds.

There’s nothing good that this will accomplish. He just—he needs to escape. To go home. He needs to get away from Liyue. He needs to sink his blades into something that’ll shriek and sob as it dies.

Childe breaks, leaving Zhongli to pick up the pieces.

Childe's mission is simple in briefing but terrifyingly complicated to execute:

To steal the Geo Archon's Gnosis.

Good thing he has the most trustworthy guide in Liyue to help him.

A retelling of canon events leading to Zhongli's reveal as the Geo Archon, with some liberties taken in regards to culture and worldbuilding.
