“Because I do!” Rumi snapped. “Most of the time, anyway.”
“—and now everyone thinks you’re dating her.”
“Yes!” Rumi threw her hands up. “And Bobby put me up for this award at the gala. Specifically told me to bring Mira. And I… I panicked, okay? I panicked and just smiled like an idiot.”
Zoey’s smirk was infuriating. “So ask her.”
Rumi froze. “Ask her? Are you—do you hear yourself? I can’t just—‘Hey, Mira, funny thing, everyone thinks we’re in love, want to play pretend in front of my boss and a hundred strangers?’ She’ll think I’m insane.”
