A clap of thunder sounds outside, illuminating the bridge with a burst of light, and Olruggio stops. His eyes flash to the window, as if he’s only just noticed the storm, and he goes very still. Then he rounds on them and demands, “How long has it been raining?”
It's storming outside, and Qifrey hasn't come home.

"I'm here to be your partner." Apparently that doesn't go quite as without saying as he'd imagined. "You think very little of me if you assume this could break an entire life made together."
Olruggio learns of the pain Qifrey has been enduring of late, but Qifrey won't concede to being helped quite so easily. (This fic is set pre-canon but does deal directly with the reveal in Volume 7/Chapter 40. Please be advised of spoilers!)

Ichigo stared at Grimmjow at a loss for words. They hadn’t always gotten along. Hell, they barely did now, but compared to their first meeting Ichigo’s freshman year—which literally resulted in a broken nose, a couple of fractured ribs, and a fuck ton of bruises and cuts—they could at least acknowledge that they were acquaintances. Although, people (as in overly concerned and over-involved friends) thought they were more like best friends. Ichigo didn’t see it. Every time they hung out they never talked about their lives or important shit. Their typical hangouts involved a movie they’d seen way too many times because they couldn’t agree to watch anything else, whatever alcohol Grimmjow got his sticky fingers on, and some seriously shitty pot—but all of that was better than stressing over college. Ichigo guessed that was the only positive about their relationship. Grimmjow did distract him from whatever bullshit was bothering him that day.
But this was just fucking weird.

Summary
Wolfwood looks around to see if any of his companions appear willing to help but Milly’s in the middle of creating a pyramid of martinis and the other two seem to be fighting over— oh God, is that the remote?
Wolfwood slowly sits up straighter and prepares for the worst. He stubs out his cigarette and knocks back a glass of something that isn’t his, handing the person he stole from a 5 before going all in.
In the distance Meryl is balancing her knees on a stool to reach up and steal the remote from Vash who’s dangling it way out of her reach. She swipes for it, grazing a button in the process, and kickstarts probably the worst next few minutes of Wolfwood’s life.
Aka Wolfwood and his companions are strapped for cash stuck in New Vegas, and he was chosen as the person of sacrifice for their plan to make a quick buck.

Summary
Nicholas D. Wolfwood is hardly what one would call a connoisseur of literature. As far as he’s concerned, it sorts itself nicely into three buckets: smart books, scripture, and drivel. He avoids the first on principle, finds himself unwillingly dragged through the second more often than not, and dabbles in the third if the fancy strikes.
The book that’s caught his eye presents a conundrum he wasn’t prepared to confront at 10 AM on a bright, already-roasting Tuesday morning. He’s been left unsupervised in a general store while Vash takes care of some do-gooder something or other, and his boredom had him gravitating to the rack of double-dime novels tucked in the back corner. The drivel selection is top-tier. Most of the books he can open at random and land on something both intriguingly salacious and horrendously written, and Wolfwood has spent a solid fifteen minutes gleefully paging through paperbacks with covers featuring washboard abs and heaving bosoms before he spots the book that’s going to ruin his life.

Wolfwood’s eyebrows shoot up in an expression that Vash has remembered so many times that his own faulty memory rewrote over the real thing.
“This isn’t—how?” he asks, voice warping around the cold static clogging his mouth.
“You ever hear of Jesus Christ?” Wolfwood grins, and it’s exactly the same. Like no time has passed. Like he’s so proud of his stupid joke. Like Vash didn’t lay his still-warm corpse in the ground and bury him on the other side of that building.
Like the inexorable inspiral of a binary star, Vash is drawn back to the orphanage in December and the unexpectedly empty grave of his dearest friend.
Or, Vash and Wolfwood and all their tomorrows.
