Summary
She should leave. Stop staring at him, back away, close the door so quietly he would never know she had been in here at all.
But it somehow didn’t seem fair to ogle him like this and then not even let him know or apologize, taking advantage of how all-or-nothing she well knew his focus was. No, she should… apologize for the intrusion on his private bathtub love poetry time, then leave.
“Sorry, Cal-“
“AARGH!”

Summary
****Warning: Contains spoilers for season 5 of The Dragon Prince***
She could feel Callum leaning closer towards her, his tone warm yet careful, “Rayla, I want to know why you lied about us going together to search for him.”
Her breath hitched. This was what she was afraid to answer. He had wanted to share their burdens together — to be stronger together. And in telling him this, all it would sound like was her not trusting him. A balloon felt like it was expanding rapidly in her chest, no room to grow yet still doing so. Her head lightened.
“Rayla, look at me,” his voice cut through in time. Callum’s hand lifted to wipe a tear she had unknowingly shed.
Together. We’re stronger together.

Callum and Rayla have a talk after the events of The Great Bookery to further clarify what Callum hopes she knows, as well as why she left him 2 years ago. -
