Stan and Kyle used to be the two peas in a pod but once the two got to the 5th-grade kyle started making new friends and he talked to Stan less and less.
Eventually, the two stopped being friends altogether, Stan felt like Kyle didn't need him anymore and how happy Kyle seemed without him didn't help.
But after years of not talking, the two finally speak to each other again.

Stan finds himself with nothing green to wear for St. Partick's Day. He doesn't want to get pinched so his first thought was to call his best friend Kyle. Since he does wear green every day.
But somehow this backfired.
The next day Kyle and Cartman get into a disagreement about leprechauns and whether or not they were real. Cartman notices Stan wearing Kyles's hat and uses it to spread a rumor around the school as an attempt to get back at Kyle for him punching Cartman in the face.
