    Violet Riddle didn't have to turn to Horcruxes for her immortality, for she had a better option – a dark and secret transformation, passed down from the ancient and terrible Empresses of Atlantis. She chose to become an Ophidian, powerful, sociopathic, immortal, and near-impossible to kill.

    The prophecy said that Harry Potter would be the one to defeat the Dark Lady, and so Dumbledore prepared him in secret, teaching him all about the Ophidians, their weaknesses, and the means by which they can be defeated. But Ophidians are not only made – they can be born, too. And so when Harry starts to notice a change at age seventeen, she knows exactly what to do next.
