Summary
“Stay with me, my love!” Emmrich’s sweet voice echoed and she might have felt herself smiling. If that was the last sound she would ever hear, she’d at least be grateful she’d lived long enough to hear him call her his love.
Rook's attention wanders to disastrous effect.

Summary
"But it’s a lie and they are both gone. Father followed Mother after her bones were returned to him from the Deep Roads in a plain wooden box. For a creature once of the Fade, it’s too much, too fast to fully understand, but he thinks that it is worse for Sister."
In which Manfred becomes more than Curiosity.

Summary
“Oh, one day we'll get drunk together and trade old childhood war stories,” Rook says flippantly, in a gallant effort to break the tension. “I'm sure Tevinter blood mages are just as inventive with raising children as a Crow.” There's a jesting tone to her voice, but Lucanis recognizes a small, nearly imperceptible quaver. She'll hide it, make jokes about it, but there is a bone-deep fear there under her voice he's been trained to listen for. To find the vulnerabilities in a mark. He would never use this against Rook, but his training, too, is bone-deep.
—
Rook and Lucanis are more traumatized by their pasts before the Lighthouse than either would care to admit to. Slavery, Crow training, the Ossuary. Emmrich reaches out to both of them, and against the odds, they all manage to fall for each other and perhaps even heal each other along the way.

Summary
For an openly practicing necromancer, Professor Volkarin was a man whose existence seemed devoted to making you forget what blood magic he used on corpses.
Isolde trailed him silently, watching him with as much attention as she gave to scanning the woods for dangers. When Rook had ordered Isolde onto this mission, Isolde hadn’t needed their purposeful, pointed look to know that her assignment wasn’t simply to guide and guard Professor Volkarin through the Arlathan wilderness. The malfunctioning artifact summoning demons too close to Strife’s camp, less than a week after Professor Volkarin had joined their party, was as much an opportunity as it was an obligation. Rook was shrewd; they always had more than one reason for doing anything they did.
Watch him.
A dangerous man, witnessed only by a lowly guard, might well give himself away.

Summary
“Yes, Manfred,” says Emmrich. “I think Rook is quite nice.”
He thinks she is young, and that she looks at him like he could save her.
That she is beautiful the way the ocean is beautiful, when viewed from the edge of a sheer, high cliff.

Summary
When people think of the Warden Order they often think of Blight and battles, of the heroes who have come and gone and the songs sung in their honor. Many a minstrel has played the lute in the halls of kings and spun tales of those who slay the archdemons. Of the great Lyna Mahariel, who gave her life in service of her people and the world. How she bravely struck the beast down and ended the Fifth Blight in a most dramatic fashion. And I should know, for I was there.
Such names are etched in the sands of time, never to be forgotten in this life or the next. They are carved into the very fabric of the Fade, like the scar that once tore the sky asunder.
But rarely do we remember the common folk, the ones who keep things running day to day. But these are their stories, told for your pleasure.- Language:

Summary
A collection of letters sent between Rook and Emmrich in the months between the Evanuris' defeat and her arrival in Nevarra. The distance is difficult, but the letters help. (Other than the fact that Rook has no privacy to speak of and Emmrich is, at times, distractingly open about what he would like to do with her if she wasn't so far away.)
