Cytat Darwina wydał się Pavlowi niepokojąco aktualny. Myśl o przystosowaniu gdzieś w nim utkwiła, choć sam nie był pewien dlaczego – może dlatego, że w ostatnim czasie jego własne życie niepostrzeżenie zaczęło zmieniać się szybciej, niżby tego chciał.
Hal nie okazał zainteresowania cytatem wyświetlonym na ekranie, nie podzielił się też żadną refleksją na jego temat – trudno było powiedzieć, czy w ogóle cokolwiek o nim pomyślał. Henry po prostu był – nie stawiał oporu wobec nurtu zmian, lecz płynął z nim, lekko, naturalnie. Akceptował rzeczywistość taką, jaka była, a czasem sam stawał się siłą, która ją kształtowała.

His gaze often strayed from the dice to Henry’s face, as if watching his reactions was half the game. Henry, on the other hand, was focused on winning back his coins. He wouldn’t stop until he clawed back at least a little of his money, or else lost it all.
