Summary
Neil is frozen in place. He can’t think, can’t breathe; all he can think is: Andrew should be getting up right now, why isn’t he getting up, oh god there’s blood, they’re going to touch him, they can’t touch him.
Andrew suffers a major head injury following a match and has to be rushed to the hospital for emergency care. Neil hates being unable to protect him from the suffering that comes with recovery, so does the only thing he can that will help: stay.

He’s got his hand fisted in Alec’s shirt and he’s not pulling away, but Alec’s heart still pounds harder. Please,don't let him back out now. “You need to take a couple of breaths.” He presses his forehead to Alec’s, stroking the back of his neck. “Hi,” he whispers, looking up at Alec through his lashes. He smiles, slow and gentle, and so beautiful.
Alec can feel himself smiling in return, helplessly. “Hi yourself,” he whispers back.
