    Summary

Wilbur is torn every time one of them asks him over for dinner. Again, he doesn’t want to come across as unfriendly or ungrateful, since he’s always happy to spend time with them, chatting away about nothing and everything from the comfort of one of the swinging chairs on the back porch. But he doesn’t want to be seen as some charity case to them, but rather as an equal, someone who can hold his own without others’ help. And lingering in the back of his mind is a darker worry about the whole situation; that their behaviors are less of a concern over his weight, and more of one prompted by their instincts…

[Or: in a world of predator hybrids, Wilbur is a prey hybrid struggling to earn a living and cope with his looming instincts to boot. As his problems become insurmountable, he finds the help and comfort he needs from those he is closest to.]

    Summary

(Previously: Sleep Deprived Chaos Is The Best Chaos)

“I’m not a kid Siren.” “Yes you are.” Says Siren, the top villain in L’Manburg, who’s harassing Tommy for no reason. Tommy was debating the merits of punching him in the face and running.

Siren raises an unimpressed eyebrow, “You literally look 13 and have the worst sleep schedule I have ever seen, and that’s coming from someone who knows at least 5 people with insomnia.” “I’m not 13 I’m 16, and don’t know anything about my sleep schedule.” Siren only raises the eyebrow more, “I’m a phantom, Gremlin child.” “I’m not a kid.”

Tommy huffs and crosses his arms, he’s a big man, and his sleep schedule is perfectly fine (not).

    Or

Wilbur, aka Siren finds a very sleep deprived avian! Tommy and proceeds to snatch him. Chaos ensues.

    Summary

Tommy was handed a small flyer in printed in black and white, with the words “POETRY NIGHT - OPEN MIC” splayed across the front in bubbled font. He fumbled with his binder as he took it, eyes wide as he said, “are you sure? I mean, I love poetry and all, but I don’t think-I’m not sure—what if I can’t write poetry?”

Mr. Sam’s dark eyes softened, and he reached out to place a hand on Tommy’s shoulder, squeezing it gently. “Everyone has to start somewhere; every poet, from me to Rudy Francisco, started off without knowing a clue about what we were doing. Tommy, it’s not about if you can or cannot write poetry, it’s about if you want to.”

    Summary

“What is a child like you doing sleeping on a park bench? You should get home to your parents. It is almost 2 AM.” the man said in a soothing voice.
“I don’t have any parents.” Tommy slurred out, still half asleep. “Besides if it's almost 2 then why are you out here?” Tommy pulled the thin jacket closer to himself.
“I go on late night walks because it is peaceful. Normally I don’t find orphans sleeping on park benches. Especially not by my favorite spot.” The man said, throwing some bread into the water. “Hey, why don't you come sleep at my apartment tonight? I don't want to leave a kid sleeping on some random bench. You are gonna freeze to death out here.”
“I don’t even know you dude. Ever heard of ‘stranger danger’?” Tommy said. “Besides, Why do you want to invite a homeless person into your home. Most people are scared of getting stabbed by some rabid kid off the street.” Tommy said, looking away.
“You say ‘besides’ a lot.” Wilbur pointed out, “Maybe I’m just being nice. Plus you don’t seem like the type to stab a nice stranger.” Tommy huffed out a laugh but the man was already walking away.
“Hey! Where are you going?” Tommy shouted.
“Home of course,” the man replied “Coming with?”
