Mike sets two glasses on the table. He fills them with a finger of whiskey. “Drink first,” he instructs.
Nacho puts his hand on the rim of it. “Is this supposed to make me feel better?” he asks. His mouth tastes of basil, sharp and unpleasant.
He thinks, normally, Mike would tell him to just drink and quit complaining. Instead, he is silent.
It is a sobering realisation, that his only friend left in the world is a man he does not really know at all.
