“Of my sister?” Kara replies curtly, pushing her bag onto the compartment again—with success, this time. She turns to give Lena a flatly irritated look. “Yes. I am.”
Lena nods, sardonically amused. “What are the odds?”
Kara rolls her eyes. “I don’t think there are thousands of flights headed to Sydney every day,” she says, sticking her hands in the pockets of her sweatpants.
“Oh, but there kind of are,” Lena pushes on, each word dripping with more and more smooth condescension. “There’s American, Qantas, Qantas through Dubai, codeshares. Just our luck, I suppose.”
“Right,” Kara answers flatly, pulling her hands out to cross her arms tight. “How blessed are we.”

Years later, they meet again when Lena is being interviewed by Clark Kent, not knowing that Kara was the intern mentioned as the person joining the meeting to observe Clark interviewing Lena. Kara wasn’t prepared to meet Lena in a super professional setting but what she was even less prepared for was Lena dating someone else. Jack Spheer. Kara hadn’t really tried dating anyone else other than having very brief dates with Mon-El twice before deciding no one could ever compare to Lena and leaving it at that. Until now. Kara’s world falls apart after that meeting because Jack had been there visiting Lena before Clark and Kara came for the interview and it was obvious they were happy together. Superpowers were not always a positive.

The glasses slip from Kara’s face and Lena almost drops them onto the floor. She thought she was prepared, throughout the fifteen seconds of realisation, but it hits her like a train wreck. All the composure dissolved from her frame, and she closes her eyes, hoping that when she opens them, it’s all going to be a bad dream. But her eyelashes flutter open, and Supergirl is sitting across from her, wearing Kara’s clothes.

She could hear Lena’s heart beating wildly, which was only causing hers to quicken as well. She reached out for Lena’s hands again, but Lena pulled back. And she watched as Lena put up a wall between them.

Those who have been trapped on earth have no choice but to live out their lives on this planet unless they are given freedom and can pass off as human. Kal-El came to earth first and is secretly made to watch over Lex Luthor, not knowing that he is even supposed to be anything other than Lex’s friend. Once Kara comes to earth, much later, she is purchased by the Luthors to watch over Lena but she knows the score and her role all along before things go out of hand with Lex and Clark later on in their lives. While Clark doesn’t even know his origins or role in protecting Lex, Kara is made aware as a young teenager who grew up knowing she would have to lay down her life for Lena.
