When Izaya woke up…

Not wanting to repeat their first day of mutual hatred, Izaya tries a different tactic to approach the Monster of Ikebukuro. [It’s only the second week of school and Zuko is already failing AP Calc.
Okay, maybe he isn’t technically failing, but a B on his first test might as well be an F, in the eyes of both his GPA and his father. Zuko absolutely cannot get a B in AP Calc. He can’t even get an A-minus. If he doesn’t keep his perfect GPA (a 4.56, to be exact) and become valedictorian (or at least salutatorian), Zuko knows he can kiss any chance of ever proving himself goodbye. That isn’t an option.]

Zuko needs a math tutor.
Enter Sokka, a math and science prodigy, who agrees to help Piandao with tutoring to thank him for writing such great letters of recommendation.
In theory, it would work out perfectly. There's only one issue:

"Tell me a story," Shizuo says. "To pass the time."
Izaya quirks an eyebrow at him. "What makes you think I'm a good storyteller?"
Your voice, Shizuo thinks. "A gut feeling," he says instead.
Izaya chuckles, but then he looks up into the cloudless sky. "There's a story my mother used to tell me," he says. "It's about an emperor who owned groves and groves of apple trees, and wanted to find the best one..."
It's their second summer of high school. Shizuo Heiwajima has found a summer job as a farm hand. Izaya Orihara is on a rare family vacation, out in the countryside with no people to watch and no internet access. Left with nothing else to do, Izaya decides to wander around the local apple orchard. Their paths cross, Izaya steals an apple, and Shizuo throws a wheelbarrow at him.

Summary
After royally screwing up, Izaya is admitted to a behavior hospital by his parents, and given the ultimatum that this is his last chance. He believes them. So he promises to actually try to get better this time.
All he has to do is avoid pestering his new therapist until he quits, not start wars in the ward, and refrain from antagonize any of the other patients. Which, for Izaya, is all easier said than done.
Especially when some of the other patients on the ward are hell bent on making his life a living nightmare. One in particular.
