Summary
Grief did things to people, Shadow knew that then, but he hadn’t understood it. He believed that grief made them this way, made them want revenge, made them blind to all reason, but that wasn’t true. Grief did a lot of things, but it never made anyone do anything. It led them to the decisions, and he had blindly followed the professor down the destructive path.
Sonic had merely stepped down that path, grabbed Shadow, and yanked him back.

He'd wrapped long fingers around Luo Binghe's small wrist, a simmering feeling he'd later learn was qi, sweeping through him. Then Shen Qingqiu looked up at the tall man that shared Luo Binghe's eyes, but not much else, and nodded.
"He's your son," Shen Qingqiu said.
Luo Binghe knew he should have been more focused on the fact that he had a father, but his only thoughts were for Shen Qingqiu.

“Hey, Omega, sweetie, can you check the bio-signatures?” Rouge asked kindly, keeping an eye on the turrets on the outer walls. They didn’t seem to be online and the thought bothered her more than she cared to admit.
There was a moment of silence between them before a chime erupted out. Omega’s eyes were locked on a portion of the facility where the lights had gone out, the red glow causing fractals in the watery space around him.
“I am sensing a rapidly cooling heat signature in the lower levels of Poseidon B-” he stuck a clawed hand out to point at the odd cracks that were able to be seen even from the distance between them. “The rest of the building has been evacuated.”
“A rapidly cooling..?” Rouge muttered under her breath, puzzled. Then it clicked.

A curl of unknown guilt thrums through him. “Am I supposed to know you?”
Maddie looks back at him, her eyes pinched slightly. “'Supposed to?' No. But it would make this a little easier if you did.”
Shadow's ears press back at the insinuation that he's failed them all in some way.
Maddie rests her hand on the couch, careful not to touch him directly. “What's the earliest thing you remember?”
There's the flash of stars, scattered lights, an unfolding nebula tangled in the dark blanket of space, twisting end over end. The gold of his Limiter glints sharply, like light spilling over the curve of the planet.
“Falling...”

Finding no one but an alternate Sonic that has taken a liking to him and is slowly stealing his heart. He's becoming more and more fond of him but Shadow can't shake the feeling that there's much more to this new Sonic than he leads on.
