The kolinahr ritual shatters. Something shouts across the galaxy. Its desperation leaps across lightyears as easily as a starship cuts through warp space, making a fool of that great universal speed limit, lightspeed. Spock does not know what or who it is but he can hear it, cannot avoid hearing it. He cannot resist turning towards this voice defying spacetime to be heard.
WHAT AM I?
Of all the questions to ask, Spock must allow that it is one of the better ones.

McCoy’s not sure how he ended up here. Okay, he ended up here because this is where the crew is taking shore leave -- Yosemite National Park. But last night’s a bit of a blur thanks to a little too much of that McCoy family secret ingredient, and he frankly doesn’t have a clue how he ended up inside two zipped-together sleeping bags, his nose buried in Spock’s hair and Jim’s arm draped over them both. It wouldn’t seem so unusual -- it’d been a cold night, after all -- if any of them seemed to be wearing pants. Which they didn’t.

"Why did you ask me upstairs, Jim?"
He was never one for beating around the bush. For what it's worth, Jim doesn't seem the type to be offended by a little directness, and sure enough his mouth turns up at the corners, hand leaving his pocket to pull at his tie, easing up the knot a bit.
"You seemed like good company."
Leonard raises an eyebrow, and licks his lips as if in automatic response to that soft smile.
"My wife would disagree with you."
