Vincent’s problem was always the same: he wants.
He wants, he wants, he wants. And no amount of getting or receiving will ever change that fact, will ever close the cavern inside of him that always wants more. Getting is secondary, underwhelming in comparison to the thrill of wanting. Of chasing. When he found something he wanted, he pursued it single-mindedly. He made a plan, he pulled his strings, he put every piece of the puzzle into place. That was when he was on top of the world. Receiving his prize was little more than a participation trophy, and by the time he got it he had usually already found another want. Want, want, want.

A clicking noise breaks through the silence, followed by the tell-tale buzz of electricity. His monitor’s hum is closer now, a familiar whirring in front of you. You hear fabric rustle as he leans closer, static sticking to your face now. A hand comes up to cup your face, cool metal brushing against the edge of the blindfold over your eyes, “Well, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes? Shit. Can you see anything through there?”
You shake your head, leaning into the touch of Vox’s claws against your skin. … He shifts, moving one claw to rest on your lips, pushing further into your mouth. The metallic tang pulls a gasp from you as it settles on your tongue, a steady weight holding your mouth open for him.
You stay like that for five, ten, thirty seconds until you feel the prickle of a shock building, slowly pulling you out of the fog your mind had floated to. You whine as electric waves melt over your tongue, curling down your throat like a cold glass of water. The metal tip of his claw presses harder, teasing the threat of blood mixing with the iron taste of his hand.
