    Summary

Etho was not a good person. Even before the world ended. He survived by choosing himself, and he did it well.

    And then there was Joel.

Joel, who joked when he was afraid. Joel, who kept everyone else fed and chased hope farther than it was safe to follow. Joel, who had already slipped into something dangerous without meaning to, without ever stopping to look at the shape of what he was becoming. Joel didn’t have anyone who could make the bad choice for him.

Etho had never been built for clean hands. But his hands were steady.

And that, in the end, was what Joel needed.

Or: A Boat Boys zombie apocalypse romance AU. A loose sequel to There Are Monsters Nearby by Uhohbestie, but readable as a standalone. The sequel where all the hermits get the happy ending they deserve.

“You would tell me if you were suicidal, right, Bubbie? Promise me you would never kill yourself. Promise me! Right now, young man!”

Kyle rolls his eyes and sighs into the phone. “Yes, Ma. I would tell you if I was suicidal. Which I’m not, for the record.”

    Or

Following the untimely death of an old friend, Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman do their best to cope. Horribly.

    Bookmarker's Notes

South Park fics are not my usual scene unless they offer something very unique or interesting (bonus points if there's a hint of K2 or Cryle....I'M SORRY OK). Having said that, this fic offers so, so much in the way of characters, relationships, and the way that the reader's expectations are played with. A character has died and the event is treated with equal parts sincerity and equal parts cynical realism. The main four boys are searching for closure in their own ways and the author shows such a level of understanding in how each character might do so. The dialogue feels plucked out of an episode of the show and the town's reaction to everything feels very grounded and gossipy—the kind of "oh dear, their poor parents. oh well, moving on" that one might expect to see in a small, close knit community.

It IS a South Park story so one expects to find canon-typical vulgarity in both language and action, but I find myself glued to the words, wondering where the author intends to take us! How, in the wake of such a tragedy, are our main character's changed? How are they made worse? Made better?

I think what surprised me the most was the earnest in which the catalyst event is treated. South Park very rarely treats its dark subject matter with the care it deserves (look, it DOES happen from time to time, but only when Trey and Matt are especially moved) so to come across a fic that has the cast feel so in-character while still dealing with the situation with such care—this one will be a goodie, I can tell.

    Summary

Four years of college didn't get Kyle any closer to figuring out what he wants to do with his life, but his friend Jimmy pulls through for him with an opening in the newspaper office where he works. Newbies have never been known to get glamorous work, of course, and Kyle's first assignment proves it: a filler piece on a costumed vigilante calling himself "Mysterion." When a dangerous situation brings him face-to-face with the hero himself, however, Kyle—and the growing number of readers his articles on the friendly neighborhood superhero bring in—seeks the answer to a question that burns within him: Who is Mysterion?

I mean—this is just classic, PEAK K2/Kysterion right here. ‘Nuff said….

Okay, I’ll say more: I LOVE the reimagining of “Craig’s Gang” in this fic. The peak into other POVS also sprinkled in some wonderful details and dramatic irony, something I really appreciate in writing. Makes it more fun ;)

Also Kenny—you stupid, kind, lovely, goofy bastard. He’s written so well and is funny and charming and tragic (kinda lol) up until the end. Loved his characterization. As well as Kyle and Stan—what a great group of super best friends!

    Summary

Kenny was used to people not noticing that he was gone. It was fine. And when, after an unfortunate accident, Kyle starts noticing - that's fine, too. What's not fine is that instead of waking up in his room when he resurrects he keeps waking up next to Kyle. That's - that's mostly fine, as well. What's not fine is that Kyle is leaving for Europe in a couple of weeks and Kenny might just be forced to go with him.
Unfortunate considering his massive and stupid crush on the mouthy redhead.

A 70K "one-shot" that is simply a masterpiece that explores both character dynamics as well as most of Europe in shocking accuracy. Kenny and Kyle are written so thoughtfully, and their chemistry is so, SO good. Loved the usage of Kenny deaths and show continuity, plus the utter lack of Cartman was also a delight. 10/10

    Summary

Kaede says it best: “The mastermind threatened us in the morning, collapsed a ceiling on us at noon, and then killed one of us in the night.”

Kokichi won’t say much, but there’s something unusual about his behavior and the way he hides his wrist.

Shuichi doesn’t know what to say, but he can’t stop dreaming about blood dripping on his head and two sun bursts lighting up a room.

No mystery is unsolvable, but death comes again and again, and Shuichi takes up the mask of a liar and fakes it until he can convince himself it doesn’t mean a thing.

    And the audience loves it.

What's there to say other than, the characters are written extremely well, the plot is top notch, there's twists and turns and puzzles and things. It's a great read, one of my top favorites in the DRV3 Saiouma part of the fandom, and I love everything about it. <3
