Kaveh just wanted to finish his architectural projects, pay off his debts, and maybe enjoy some alcohol without someone ruining his day.
Instead, he’s getting interrogated by an amateur kidnapper who won’t take no for an answer, playing chess with the same amateur who definitely has ulterior motives, and realizing that, maybe, he’s stumbled headfirst into a conspiracy way above his pay grade.
Oh, and the not-so-amateur kidnapper? He’s everywhere.

“Well, well, well. Look what we have here…” He drawled, a sickly smile on his face, as he approached the hero, tilting his head as his foe made no move to, well, move.
“What? No witty quip? No smart mouthing? Cat got your tongue, or did the Snake finally rip it out?” Usually a comment like that would get a snarl from the hero, his little firecracker, but now… now the hero just shivered, something that sounded suspiciously like a sniffle coming from his nose.
“Oh come on, Lightning bug, you don’t expect the waterworks to work on me, now do you?” He asked, grin feral as he tilted Tempests’ chin up with one clawed fingernail, digging it into the underside of his windpipe.
What he saw froze the smile on his face, icy rage rushing through him.

"Acting Grand Master," Lawrence says, "we have another noise complaint."
Kaeya leans against the doorway, watching as Lawrence places at report atop Jean's desk. Sighing, Jean tiredly rubs at her brow, before offering a curt nod.
"Thank you," she says. "I will deal with the complaint shortly."
Pushing off the doorway, Kaeya saunters past Lawrence, picking the report up, and casually flipping through it. Jean shoots him a stern look, but does not tell him to put it back down.
"It's from one of the sisters," Kaeya observes, and reads aloud. "Perpetrator scaled statue outside church while drunk and sang loudly for three hours."
Lawrence lets out a delicate cough.
As Weinlesefest draws near, Kaeya notices a new mystery in the city of wind and wine — Jean and Diluc have been oddly permissive with Venti since the Stormterror Incident. Mischievously determined to get to the bottom of this, Kaeya soon makes a discovery that threatens to upend everything he knows. In the process, he must reconcile what it means to be Khaenri'ahn, and to love a city that belongs to a god.

“I would never cheat on my wife,” Ethan said, indignant. He'd meant it, truly. "She doesn’t want me to leave,” he said, hesitant with how much he should divulge, unsure why airing out his marital troubles came so naturally. Maybe he just wanted to talk to someone who was willing to listen, however disinterested. “She doesn’t want me to touch her either."
Heisenberg said nothing, returning to his task at hand as if Ethan hadn’t spoken.
“It’s not like I haven’t thought about it,” Ethan confessed minutes later, the silence killing him more than any humiliation, “every time she pushes me away, it just…” He took a deep breath, stopping.
“One can only go so long without the touch of another,” Heisenberg concluded, a cigar in his mouth. Ethan would’ve said something about fire and oil not mixing, but he was distracted by what’d been said, agreeing.

He's been using a dinner plate as an ashtray, Ethan notices—the kind of minor detail the mind focuses on in moments of extreme stress (god, he's probably lucky the bastard bothered to find himself an ashtray at all).
But Heisenberg's still talking: "Dropped by, you weren't home, so I let myself in. Wouldn't want me loitering around your porch, bringing down the neighbourhood, would you?"
Ethan grits his teeth. He'd actually forgotten just how annoying Heisenberg could be. "Which still doesn't explain what the hell you're doing here."
