Summary
Kurt and Blaine could easily not have met on a staircase in high school. They could have met a few years later in college instead.
This story is AU from within 2x06 ("Never Been Kissed"), with many of the broad strokes of canon remaining except where I thought they would be different because of the AU or other factors. Near Misses itself takes place in Blaine's first year of college, starting about a year from now. There are some spoilers through 3x22 (“Goodbye”).

But Kurt, the dom, is a 16-year-old high school student and Blaine, the sub, is his 27-year-old history teacher.

There are plenty of places that Kurt Hummel doesn’t want to find himself — staring at his father from underneath a boyfriend (once and only once was more than enough to cause permanent psyche scarring for everyone involved), stuck inside of a car with Christopher Cross cranked all the way up on the radio, the men’s section at Walmart on Christmas Eve.
Number one on the list, though, is definitely “mired in the mud on an Oklahoma dirt road with a tornado bearing down.”
