This might as well happen.
It’s a thought Desmond has more often than not. Not resignation and not acceptance, either. Just pattern recognition, simple and predictable:
the world breaks, he shows up, and things get messy before they get better.
This is how it’s always happened.
Then, within a single blink, something is breathing against the back of his neck. Warm, steady, and far too close. He turns to a blur of white and black and red, to the screeching drag of breath that isn’t quite human and doesn’t bother pretending to be, either. For a moment, neither of them move. Then—
“Hey,” Desmond says, voice rough with sleep. “Personal space.”
The shape pauses. Tilts.
Pierrot, he’s learned, does that when he’s thinking.

Hi everyone! I’m a new author and just had an idea for these characters that I couldn’t get out of my head. I used characters from the Freak Circus game owned by Neko Bueno, along with an original character I made, Saphael.
