Summary
When Kurt's father died in an accidental fire he felt as if the world were ending. The event marked the death of his last living parent and he was forced to uproot from Ohio and move across the country to Washington to stay with his Uncle Andy. Taking the adjustment in stride, Kurt did his best to blend in, lay low, and keep out of trouble until he was old enough to escape to college and away from the pain of his past.
His plan would have worked perfectly well if he hadn't moved to a town where most of the general population seemed to know him better than he knew himself, and they all certainly knew his father. And then in one single moment Kurt's life changed once more, throwing him into a world of magic that he could hardly believe existed, and up against forces of power he barely understood, but would destroy him without hesitation.
And then there was Sebastian. One lone, angry boy who had always been meant for Kurt, and who both resented and loved him for the truth of it.

“Hilarious and so fresh. Truly promising stand-up comedian material. I’d tell you to quit your day job if you had one,” is Kurt Hummel’s reply, quick and with just the right amount of bite. Then, with eyes wandering all over Sebastian's face and body, he adds, “What the hell happened to you?”
It probably says something about the pain he’s in (and the amount of alcohol still flowing through his system) that he decides to be honest, instead of just telling Kurt to mind his own damned business.
“Had a run-in with a jealous boyfriend.”
Kurt's eyebrows rise for a second and then furrow, and he looks as though he's about to ask something, so Sebastian adds, “Not my jealous boyfriend.”

“I need you to—”
“I heard you the first time,” Kurt interrupts, putting his fork and knife down on his plate and pushing his half-finished pancakes aside. “What I meant was: what the hell?”
He points towards the neglected pancakes, trying to stall in the face of Kurt’s reaction.
“Are you sure you don’t wanna finish that first?”
The look in Kurt's eyes tells him in no uncertain terms that no, he doesn't want to finish his pancakes, Jesus.
And so Sebastian has no option but to take a deep breath in, exhale slowly through his mouth and just… get on with it, internally cringing at how unbelievably ridiculous it all sounds when he puts it in words, all out there for the world (and more importantly, Kurt fucking Hummel) to judge.
It all boils down to: I fucked up and I'm too proud to deal with it the mature way.
