Summary
Brian lived. He and Dexter split paths after the night on his table, an ultimatum - you never show your face, or any hints of your kills - or I kill you. Brian picked living, moving as far away from Miami that one could without leaving the states, just in case his brother needed him. The last time he and Dexter spoke was when it was too late, baby brother already committed to a mission of suicidal grief after the death of oh so poor, fake sister Deborah. Brian understood him, after that; why he wanted the release of death so badly. Things get complicated when he takes a much needed vacation to Iron Lake, wondering what he really keeps going for, and picks up a teen with a familiar baby face on the way.

His brother frowned, snapping a quick “No, I’m fine, Sam.” before looking back down to his burger and fries.

Sam shook his head. No time like the present if there might not be one soon.

“Like Hell I do,” they both winced at the choice of words, recovering quickly, “I don’t. Where’d ya get that idea from, Sammy?'"
or: Sam can smell when Dean self harms due to the demon blood in his veins. It goes well for neither of them, when Sam finally has enough of pretending, and says that he knows.

A part of me cried by loosing all those potential M/M/M readers by gender swapping Dexter, but in the end 'struggling single Mom' and 'surbuban soccer Mom' as the Bay Harbor Butcher just did it for me. 😂 I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself.
