Summary
The crew aboard the Nekoma is as unnaturally still and silent as its captain, frozen in place as the boat rocks gently to the sounds of the ocean. It does nothing to drown out the high-pitched noise the creature is making, a hissing-grinding-crackling that makes Kuroo’s ears itch and his skin prickle.
Nonetheless, he is frozen in place, mesmerized by the near-rhythmic thumping of its tail against the deck. From their proximity, he can see shimmering black scales overlaid with varied splotches of colors, ranging from autumn orange to crimson red fading to chocolate brown at the tips of his tail fins.
With the sea breeze rustling through his hair and the cries of gulls in his ears, Kuroo thinks that the creature is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.

“Hey! You’re the one who pinned me down, handcuffed me to a table, and then sat on top of me, Dai. I can’t help that it just reminded me of old times together.” Kuroo says with a wounded look.

Daichi’s mouth dropped open, his mood flipping from content to frenzied in an instant. Texting was one thing, but there was a certain intimacy about talking on the phone. It could quickly become awkward, suffering from lulls in conversation and realizing they had nothing in common except volleyball. On one hand, there was still a lot he didn’t know about Kuroo and this was a golden opportunity to know him better. During their travels, Hisoka wasn’t surprised to learn that Gon is a precocious boy. Despite his wild nature, his town of adults clearly fawned over him, so Gon is very comfortable saying whatever is on his mind. Which means Hisoka has been receiving many questions. Surprisingly little of which has been about Hisoka’s level of experience in child abduction.
