"It's fine Dean, I can tell. It's nothing we can't fix," Sam is lying because he's desperate. He knows his lies are shit when he's desperate.
Dean calls his bullshit so fast with a furrowed brow, "What the fuck Sammy, it's not fine, I saw you crack your elbow, I heard it break."
Sam opens his mouth to argue, but nothing comes out. He has his elbow against his chest protectively, protecting it from Dean.
Dean slows down, his lips frowning, and he leans back to give Sam some space, "Sammy?"
Sam just shakes his head quickly, nervously.
Fuck Sam is so out of it. His head is spinning and he can't come up with a good way to cover this up, because Dean is gonna want to look at his arm, and Sam knows damn well he's gotten too tiny for Dean not to be worried.

It's not that Sam deliberately hides it from Dean. They're doing so much research now that he's got a dozen books scattered across the library tables at any given moment. So if he avoids reviewing those few particular texts when Dean's around, that's just coincidence. And Dean is so involved in his own studies that he doesn't notice.
At least, Sam doesn't think he does.

Originally for the Sam Winchester Big Bang 2017 on tumblr! The first chapter is the primary fanfic, and the rest of the chapters are supplementary comics!
"Bar fight. Don't tell Dean. I don't want to hear it. You just... You understand best. You get it best, y'know? You get me." Death brings Sam back — sort of. A domestic, curtain-fic sort of piece that explores different sections of what makes Sam Winchester. An alternative to S07E01, where raising our boy's soul doesn't go exactly to plan.
Warning for psychological issues, mental anguish, mentions of torture, and so on. Also has minor self-harm (unintentional harm).
