Summary
Will wouldn't ever say that the shape Hannibal has carved into his life is comfortable. But it is reliably there, and without it, Will is fairly sure that he would spring a leak and all the water would come pouring in.
But Hannibal is more than a shape in his life. The man has his own life, his own spaces and agendas to attend to. And Will has come to the stinging realisation that he may have to share Hannibal's time with others.
The thing is, Will doesn't like sharing.

Post-fall, Hannibal and Will escape to Europe, wounded and hurting. Very quickly things turn bad, and Will seeks to hide them both away on a small island in the Mediterranean, to cut them off from the world and for them to be alone together. He needs to understand how he has changed Hannibal, and what that change means for Hannibal's behaviour. He also has to come to terms with their growing intimacy, both emotional and physical. But Hannibal finds it difficult to stay hidden away and when they meet others on the island, Hannibal tries to persuade him into killing them.

Will’s eyes darted to meet Hannibal’s again.
“I hate him.” Will said. “I want to destroy him. When I close my eyes, I see myself doing it.”
Hannibal daren’t move.
“How will you do it, Will?” he whispered.
“With the knife you gave me, I will slash his throat. His blood, pouring over my face as he falls to his knees. Oh, God.”Will started to tremble. Hannibal reached out and clasped his face in his hands, cupping both of his cheeks. The gesture wasn’t unfamiliar to them; he had held Will in such a way before. But this time Will didn’t just allow it—he leaned into it, pressing his face into Hannibal’s palms and closing his eyes.
“What have you awakened in me?” he whispered, and Hannibal felt the world disappearing; none of it mattering at all except for what was clasped between his fingers.
“Are you glad that I have?”
Will’s eyes flew open and burned into him.
