Retreating, Paul felt another smile rise. Though they'd stayed at each other's frequently nowadays, he'd never known John talked in his sleep.

John got to work putting on the album he’d picked out. Before the needle even touched, Paul knew what record John had chosen: ‘Loving You’ by Elvis Presley was the only album John had listened to in the last month.
John began to hum along with the song and sway, the alcohol in his system making it irresistible to do so. Paul, too, began to hum along with the song, harmonizing by instinct.
When John turned back to Paul, his face was flushed and his eyes were soft from the drink. He looked warm. Paul swallowed. John held out his hand.

Summary
Music teacher, Paul, has fancied the school's new guitar teacher, John, since he first laid eyes on him. But between his job, troublesome students he has a soft spot for, missing his two best friends, and a car that keeps breaking down, he's got enough to worry about.
But when his head of department, Brian, takes some unexpected leave, Paul has to take over the school's Christmas show and it might just be a blessing in disguise. (If it weren't for the extra workload, John insisting that he hates Christmas every five minutes, and the fact that without Brian there, Paul might actually lose the plot completely).
