She nods without missing a beat.She’d pay good money to see Edward Cullen dodging eggs raining down on that wild head of bronze hair from the vantage point of her second-story bedroom window. It’s revenge, she decides. For lying in wait with her mom at the hospital yesterday. For backing her into a corner until she had no choice but to agree to this—this invasion of her personal space, her house, her carefully maintained sense of safety. He’ll live if he gets a bit of egg on him.
Almost as if sensing her thoughts, he frowns. It looks out of place on him, carving faint lines into his otherwise perfect face that don’t quite belong there. In fact, it makes him look a little less handsome. Beth would love it if he frowned more. She’d feel a lot less intimidated by him. Or maybe that has more to do with the fact that he’s going to marry her cousin and play a hand in Renaissance's traumatic birth.

Wei Ying was practically born in the Burial Mounds. Of course, that wasn’t true, but he knew the Burial Mounds so well that it was like he had never even breathed fresh air unless it came from the tip of a mountain hidden amongst the sword gardens, and corpse hollows. Instead of leaving, he stayed. And instead of venturing, he stared wide-eyed at a cultivator who lay outside his wards, nearly dead.
