Majima is confused but happy, but also mad that Kiryu keeps escaping his fights. Kiryu thinks he's being entirely logical, but nobody has any idea what his logic is. Summary

(Or: two supernatural idiots get stricken with mortality and have to muddle through the ordeal of being human as well as their own feelings. It goes about as well as you might expect. Shenanigans, mutual pining, and long-suppressed feelings abound.)

Kiryu smelled like expensive cologne and cheap shampoo and he was warm and safe and boxed Majima in against the velvet of the couch with his broad shoulders. Not like a cage, not like a cage at all. More like a blanket, a jacket. Majima's facial hair was unpleasant against Kiryu's mouth, like dull fishing hooks or a cat's tongue. But Kiryu dragged the flat of his tongue over his chin and jawline and upper lip anyway, lapping at him. Lapping at that milk white skin.

He didn't say anything. But he felt some strange adoration needle at his chest. Some weird anti-individualism. I and you, and the strongest man he'd met. I and you. Majima and Kiryu, sitting in a tree. He didn't know what it meant. Kiryu could break his teeth with a golf club and it'd be clearer.
But Kiryu was boxing him in, lapping at him, saying I love you. Kissing his bad eye, saying I love you.

The driver too unnerved to make smalltalk, glancing back at them, at their bright casual clothes, at Majima's tattoos crawling from under his shirt whenever he lifted his arms. When they turned down the road to Morning Glory the man had swallowed, and said nothing.
"You could have cancelled, you know." Kiryu's frowning, but there’s no heat in it. He wipes his arm across his face, hesitates on the threshold of his home.
"Yer kiddin', right?" Majima hefts his bag up his shoulder, and Kiryu reaches out for it to be given to him. "Ya think I'm gonna let some pissant lil storm tell me what ta do?"
"It's going to tell you to be indoors all day. What's in this?" Kiryu lifts the bag, arm straining under the strap.
"Toolkit, fer one. Thought we'd give ya a hand." Saejima claps him on the shoulder, and follows his bro through the gate.

It had nothing to do with that look Kaoru gave him when she told him she was leaving Kiryu, probably because of him. It had nothing to do with Haruka looking up at him like he was some kind of saint instead of a dirty criminal. It had nothing to do with his hellish childhood, crushed dreams, broken marriage, unborn child, and certainly, nothing to do with the hurt he caused Kiryu.
It could all burn with him, in the heat of one dangerous moment, tossing caution to the wind to fan the flames of heroism. It would all burn, so that Kamurocho didn't have to. If he could defuse even one bomb, his death wouldn't be in vain. "

Very slowly, she lifted the dagger up towards the back of her head.
“And if I ever want to escape the shadow that you cast, I need to let you go.”
She pressed the blade against her ponytail at the base of the hair tie. As soon as it made contact it cleaved through strands of hair, but that was barely a dent. She sawed deeper, cleaving a third of it. Then half. And then with one last push it was severed.
Twisting and writhing as it fell, like a dragon crashing to earth.

If anything, he felt more like Miyuki than ever before, in the way he was there when Eijun turned the corner, as if he knew he had been thinking about him. He smiled so much more, and even when he was smiling at him, it never felt mean. It felt like Eijun had marigolds blooming from his chest, and Miyuki wanted to pick every single one, cutting them away only to replant them in his own chest.
But that—feeling that way, seeing Miyuki in that way, not as the captain or catcher but as a boy who wanted to feel things—that was weird. "
