Ted would be stupid to deny that Rebecca was desireable. He’d known it since the day he met her, when she turned around to greet him, in that rusty orange shirt that reminded him of the sunset in Kansas, when the corn burned under the gaze of the sun. And she smiled - she smiled like she knew you were prey, like she was counting every weakness laid bare before her.
He liked being looked at that way, not like he was prey, but like he could be devoured. Because underneath the appraising look she gave him the first time they met, there’d been hunger.

A couple of things happened at once:
Kathy appeared and moved to Elliot’s side, looping her arm through his. The words kind, faithful and devoted flitted through her head. And, then, when she looked at Ed she was reminded that Elliot didn’t just dislike him - he loathed everything the man stood for.
Olivia had had plenty of bad ideas in her life. But she’d also had plenty of brilliant ideas. She wasn’t sure which one this was but she stood to her feet and placed her hand on Ed’s arm before he could leave.
“I need you to do me a favor,” she said in a low, rushed voice, aware that the Stablers were seconds away from arriving. “Will you pretend we're dating?”
