Tight fingers grip the edge of the sink as wet coughs wrack Izuku’s body, and he spits out another petal. Trembling, he reaches for the petal plastered to the roof of his mouth. When he tugs it out, his fingers come away smeared in blood. The scent is dizzying.
It was a cold autumn afternoon when Izuku started coughing up flowers; the chilling consequence of repressing feelings that were meant to be felt. He had crushed them deep enough that they sprouted into his lungs, toxic stems twisting into his windpipe.

(Izuku does have a quirk - it's the power to see when someone has unhealthy attachment issues and obsessive tendencies. That would explain why some of his classmates seem a little off.

(The thing is, they really do need the money. And Katsuki's technically the leader of this bunch of morons, so he finds himself taking the job even though his pride will never recover. And even though nobody thought to tell him that he'd be working with his ex-boyfriend. You know, the cute freckled guy from high school who went and broke his heart.

Deku’s bedroom’s about the same as Katsuki imagined it. He perches on the edge of the absurdly soft bed, trying not to think about Aunty Inko staring at him like he had two heads. "Why’d you come, Kacchan? Is everything okay?”
“I’m sorry,” Katsuki says without preamble. Just like he rehearsed on the way over here. “I’ve been an asshole for most of our lives and you didn’t deserve that.”
“I, uhm –”
“You’re way too fucking sweet for your own good. You should have kicked me out instead of letting me in your room. You shouldn’t have –” kissed me, he doesn’t say. “Been nice to me after I was a jerk. I shouldn’t have been a jerk. I never even noticed how much I liked having you around until I left.”
“You liked having me around?” Deku asks, expression going soft. Katsuki rubs his sweaty hands on his jeans. Slowly, Deku scoots forward in his chair until their knees almost touch. “Is that why you started talking to me again, Kacchan? I wondered if maybe you were just bored but I thought – I’d hoped maybe you finally wanted to be friends.”
Katsuki’s chest clenches. “I did. I do.”
(Katsuki moves to Tokyo after middle school. Izuku, against all odds, ends up going with him.)
