You’re mean enough for the both of us.” He turned his head to the side, twisting the drawstrings of Iskall’s hoodie around his fingers. Iskall rolled their eyes, twisting around and adjusting their hold on Mumbo’s face and kissing him again, this time letting it last until they both ran out of breath.

So when the Hermits collectively started praying to Xelqua and Grian started to gain a lot of Watcher magic, it put a real damper on his mood, health, self-perception and his relationships. With Mumbo gone off-world, it was now up to Scar, Pearl and Xisuma to worry about him – if Grian would let them. But Grian was nothing if not stubborn. He’d get through this alone, right?

Summary
What started out as a joke quickly turned into something more devastating.
None of the Hermits were excited for this exchange program, in honesty it sounded stupid to force them out of their well comforted school and home. Scar's friends weren't exactly happy he was the one picked for their social experiment either.
It ended up leading to a rabbit hole of a missing person's case, a teacher's suspicious death, ghosts, and a boy who adamantly refuses to where his uniform.
Scar didn't expect to uncover a cold case when he changed schools.
Or: A combination of the YHS lore where the hermits are able to intervene and help Grian.

He feels like he’s lived his entire life squirreling around looking for places it was okay to shoot Bob an extra glance when he didn’t think anybody else was looking, from the war to New York and the entertainment industry. And he thought he could live like that, thought he could make a life for himself in those in-between moments and consider it happiness enough. Bob was along for it, of course, though Bob was in this for money, for fame, for the joy of the spotlight, like he was supposed to be. Phil was the one with the secrets and the hidden agenda.
