Everybody knows that Ronan loves Adam. Ronan knows he loves Adam, and he’s pretty sure that Adam knows that he’s loved, too. But they’ve never said the words. They have other words, sure, just not that one, specific, stupidly important, word.
Instead of ‘I love you’, they say:
“Call me when you get home.”
“Eat, you dumbass.”
“I changed your oil.”
“I dreamt of you last night.”
“Tamquam,” “alter idem.”
Still, the ‘L’ word. The string of three words that mean so much and nothing to them at the same time, hasn’t been said. They don’t need to say it, either. But Ronan, ever stubborn and determined, needs to say it.

The truth was, really, that he’d started thinking about kissing Ronan Lynch almost immediately after meeting him, because Ronan was handsome in a stark, unignorable way that Adam had been easily captured by, at first. So he’d done what he always did, back when he was still living in his parent's house: let himself acknowledge the feeling, then put it away for later.
