Summary
A young man dies of a wasting illness. A pillager-to-be is killed in his first raid. Then a miracle happens: They come back to life! One of them an outcast and the other burdened by his perpetually failing body, they make a long journey to the mysterious Mansion to bargain for the favor of the vex. The gruesome ritual where they sign away their lives binds Scar and Cub together against their will. Any developing feelings between them can surely be dismissed only as the vex’s influence, but when they are tasked to infiltrate and destroy a group of people who turn out to be immortals just like them, they need to decide which bonds to hold and which to betray.
Or: A Convex backstory set in the time of them joining the short-lived Kingdomcraft server before Hermitcraft s4.

Set after Last Life episode 1. Ren is alone, Scar and Joel arrive to propose a mutually beneficial arrangement. A somber piece that could have become (or could still become, I suppose) a longer story. No specific warnings for this one; if I ever continue it, though, the warnings and rating will change.
Edit: Another chapter much further along the story has been added to the same series as this. I came to the conclusion I'm never going to finish this, so I'm posting what little I do have. Before clicking, note that the second part is rated E and it continues with the bleak tone.

Ren twisted back. He rarely let his anger show, but it was always there, a constant brought on by this long, miserable, fragile and lonely life, and fanned by the threat of the red haze that could be upon him if he made a single mistake. Staying calm was a courtesy, and these arrogant men making mockery of him deserved none of it.

A third part of a series, reading the others is not necessary to understand this one but especially the first story has a bit more context about characters’ motivations and memories (or lack of them). The stories may or may not be parts of the same continuum but the facts of the world still hold.
Mostly smut, with elements of worldbuilding and character study and trace amount of plot. Centers on Scar and Grian’s relationship, Joel/Lizzie mentioned quite a bit. Mind the tags. There is violence and consent issues here - it's debatable if the characters would want to do these things if they were not red, and everything is very under-negotiated.
