Tony couldn’t honestly remember how long it had been like this. Probably since the day he’d called T’Challa and offered his help. At first it had just been compulsive self-denial: you can’t eat until you’ve drafted your opening remarks, until you’ve finished your research, until you’ve rewritten every last colon and comma and apostrophe in those Accords so that everyone can come home.
Those goals had been realistic. Lately, they’d become impossible. Until everyone forgives you. Until you forgive yourself. Until you make up for every bad thing you’ve ever caused.
He was fine. He was coasting in a dangerous place, but he was fine. He wasn't taking it too far - just far enough.

Stiles’ face is thunderous, and his chest is heaving. Peter… may have miscalculated. He knows that he should probably back track, or at the very least try to dig himself out a little. But that’s not who he is. He’s more of a charge ahead at full tilt kind of person.
He can’t stop himself from saying, “If you’re so against us having a say in your life, then maybe we shouldn’t be in it.”
Stiles comes up short at this. He looks over to Chris who has gone back to ignoring them. He looks back at Peter with an unreadable expression. They stay like this for several moments, both waiting for the other to blink first.
Stiles does.
He nods and says, “Yeah, I guess you shouldn’t.”
Without another word, Stiles leaves, front door slamming behind him.

Peter was never religious but this one time he allowed himself to pray to the Heavens that he would be loved one day. "Please please please let someone love me, I don't know what I did wrong but I'll do better, p-please I just want to be l-loved. I'll do anything! I just want a family. I want to be tucked in at night. I want lullabies and s-snuggles. I want to have hot cocoa with Mr. Stark on rainy days, please."
