Summary
“Wilbur, can you look at me?”. Wilbur averted his gaze numbly from the paper he never stopped fiddling with and looked up to see his teacher still standing in front of him. “Hey, are you alright?”Phil asked again. Wilbur wasn’t sure if he was supposed to be laughing or crying, since it seemed like his teacher still hadn't gotten the memo that the answer was a crystal clear no. No, he was not alright and he hasn’t been for a long time.
But no one ever wanted the real answer when asking how he was doing. So instead of voicing his thoughts Wilbur answered “Yes. Are you going to kick me out of university now?”
Silence was what followed. Then Phil cleared out his throat. There was a confused tone swinging within his voice, as he muttered “Kicking you out? No Wilbur, why would… Why would I ever do that?”.
Wilbur was stunned. “What?” he asked “But I thought?”Or: Wilbur is struggling in university without a support system to have his back. A certain teacher notices.
“You thought what?”Phil's forehead laid in wrinkles. “You thought wrong. Wilbur, I feel like you are struggling. I wanted to offer you my support, not hinder you further. Not kicking you out, never kicking you out.” -

Imagine the last domino not falling. Imagine them all laying on the ground but the gap to the last one was too big, and it is still standing, it didn’t fall. But everything else has.

“Violets are nice,” The teen says, and there’s something so definite in his words that Phil finds himself agreeing. Violets ARE nice.

“Why are you using quotation marks?” Tommy had asked. “I- I really do see ghosts. For real. None of that fake TV shit.”

Oh. His hands are on Tommy’s arms. His hands are on Tommy’s bare arms.
Tommy stiffens and Wilbur pulls away sharply, his eyes widening further in the same realization.
“Shit,” Wilbur goes, “fuck, sorry, sorry. You don’t like to be touched- my bad, I’m-”
or, Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo are the new mystic shop in town, and SBI seems to have a ghost problem on their hands. Luckily, Tommy is an expert on ghosts- not so much family dynamics though. Maybe he'll learn as he goes. Maybe- if his empathic and telepathic magic doesn't get in the way of it.

Yes. Wilbur had to bite his tongue to keep the answer from spilling out of his mouth, because yes he wanted more. Of course he wanted more. He wanted to be more than the bastard prince. He wanted to be more than a mistake his mother made before she married Tommy’s father.
But that wasn’t the role he had been cast for in his life.
“It doesn’t matter,” Wilbur said instead. “When Tommy turns eighteen he’ll be crowned King, and I will be his advisor. He’ll be a good king, I’ll make sure of it.”
or, as the bastard prince of the planet of Eldingvegr, Wilbur has always known he was never meant for greatness. That was his younger brother's destiny. Wilbur's job was simply to try and make sure Tommy could fulfill that destiny.
That becomes decidedly more difficult when the brothers are betrayed, and are forced to flee their home planet. With the Essempi Empire being one of the largest imperial powers in the universe, the only place that can offer them refuge from Emperor Dream is Zephys IV—capital planet of the Antarctic Empire, ruled by the ruthless Emperor Philza.

Wilbur nods, keeps smiling until Phil leaves. Only then does he drop his backpack and duffel bag on the floor, take a shuddering breath and will himself to keep it together.
This is temporary.
His parents aren’t abusers, they’re lovely people with good jobs and good connections. They’ll go to trial and everyone will find out that Wilbur is just being dramatic and then he’ll go home to a house that is made to look warm when it is really just cold.
Or, Wilbur has recently been moved to a temporary foster house due to his parents upcoming trial and learns what it truly means to be loved.
