    Sonic is a local university student, headed for a basic degree and on the track team. He's living the life, running the track, and having a blast with his friends.
    Until he meets Shadow.
    Shadow is the introverted culinary student whom Sonic has never interacted with, but that changes when he catches the other feeding off a small critter in an alleyway.
    That's when he discovers the truth about the Nightwalkers.
    The creatures that roam the pages of books exist, and Shadow is one of them. He's a vampire. And he's not the only one. Sonic is brought into this new unfamiliar world and he learns that everything isn't the same anymore, even those closest to him have kept this secret from him. Now that he is aware and has been exposed, he's on the same thin ice as the Nightwalkers, learning their ways and discovering the dangers that lurk in the dark. But he's not alone. He has Shadow and Knuckles to guide him. Even if the dark, brooding hedgehog acts like he wants nothing to do with him and refuses to share personal things with Sonic.

    Old threats are rearing their heads, the world is on the brink of destruction, and Shadow's very being is becoming something he doesn't recognize. Yet all he can think about are questions that aren't even relevant to the rising threat. When had he stopped hating every appearance of royal blue or when that annoying voice called out his name? When did he start looking forward to the sparring, the races, the constant push and pull of their dynamic? When did he start appreciating that the hedgehog existed? Why did those feelings change to this disgusting content that Shadow didn't know what to name?
