It wasn’t supposed to be Phoenix, sitting in a Pret-a-Manger, watching forlornly through the glass as his childhood friend/idol/rival/celebrity crush gets swarmed by paparazzi outside the Westin on 42nd St. and his agent won't even call him back.

It probably has something to do with how embarrassed he is at losing, and whether or not it was important, and how badly he wants to have thumbs again. He’s expecting Professor Von Karma to hit the roof, but he takes it surprisingly well.
“My daughter has a talent,” he says indulgently chucking the girl under the chin as she preens. “Though it is an unfortunate malady. You know what must be done.”
And so Phoenix stops losing. At anything.
