Summary
This story is written by myself and Tinker001. It is loosely based on canon and explores a possibility that could have occurred if the characters were younger and circumstances slightly different. As my co-writer reminded me, Diana Gabaldon admitted to not being good at keeping track of the ages of characters, so we’ve decided it’s not too remiss of us to adjust their ages to fit the narrative of our story.
For the sake of the story we want to tell, Claire is 49, Jamie 44 and John 36.
We have adjusted the time when Jamie returned to Scotland to shortly after Lord John’s visit to Fraser’s Ridge with young William. His reasons for visiting his homeland are therefore different.

Summary
Sometimes all it takes is one look an a person can change your life forever, good or bad.
Brianna saw Stephen Bonnett with her mother's ring, he saw her. He knew that he could punish Jamie and Claire by tearing their sweet girl to pieces. Jamie and Claire took one look at their wee girl, broken and bruised in the street and knew what they had to do for her... to get justice and a sense of safety back for their daughter - Bonnett had to go.
But that meant Bree needed somewhere to stay, and the best place for her, the safest place, with the safest person who they knew would be the best one to help her while they were gone? That was John... of course it was. He was more than willing to help after hearing the horrible news... he'd been there, they all had, it seemed. Claire and Jamie wondered, between themselves, if their daughter would end up wanting to come home... they had a feeling.
John took one look at her and had a feeling too: He knew he was so, SO utterly fucked... he'd never want to let her go, but he'd do anything to stop her pain... that had to come first. No matter how much he loved her... or wanted her.

Summary
It's been years since Zuko became the Fire Lord, and he's spent a lot of time trying to be a better person. Still brooding, at least he's more calm, self-reflective, and isn't actively trying to destroy the world.
Barley (OC), on the other hand, is an outsider, and has done no self-reflecting nor does she have the desire to. She's angry and brazen and her plans usually consists of: fight now, think later.
Which is exactly how she winds up in prison, and then in Zuko's care.
When they meet, it's like gas to a flame, a forest of dead leaves set ablaze, like a fire to a field of grain.

Not a lot was shed on Dougal MacKenzie's life in Outlander. He was a good man and an awful man. It was obvious that he was also a bit of a womanizer. So what would have happened if he had found his Sassanach as Jamie had? Would it have been love at first sight or would it be someone that he could fight with?
