To see her perform is to love her, please welcome to the stage Lady Whistledown!!!” The crowd hooted and hollered as the spotlight shone on the center of the stage. The song began with soft bells playing over the speakers, and Colin waited with rapt attention.
A dainty hand reached out from the side of the stage, and then his best friend strode seductively onto the stage. She wore a pale blue satin 1930's style housecoat, tied around the waist with a thick black ribbon, and her long auburn hair tumbled loose around her shoulders. In her other hand, she held two large, white, fluffy, feathery things, which she waved slowly up and then down, before transferring one to her free hand and dropping her wrists to reveal feathered fans, at least two feet wide. She began to flutter them around herself as the singer began to croon over the speakers, “find me in the trees with my limbs long and swinging/baby skinned knees and my hair's all tangled up, up.”
Penelope Featherington has a burlesque career that Colin has completely missed.
