After her journey to the past, something snapped inside of Toni, and now, she's in a relationship that she never thought was possible. It's amazing, but she finds herself struggling to keep her head above water as she suffers from panic attacks that only get worse. She sees Barnes everywhere, unable to get him off her mind. How can she save the President from the Mandarin when all she sees is death? A mere thought could send her into a panic attack? To make things worst, she seemed to have picked up a shadow?
How can Steve help Toni, when he struggles to admit his own weakness? How can he help anyone when he's all over the world on endless SHIELD missions? The Captain isn't sure how he can protect the woman he loves, when he's lost in his own head, his own set of nightmares. And to make matters worse, he isn't sure who to trust when the Winter Soldier suddenly appears, but he knows whatever happens it can't be good, especially when the Winter Soldier has a special interest in Toni. Summary
Bucky came back from Afghanistan with PTSD and a metal arm. After years of therapy, he's finally regaining a sense of self and identity that was lost when he became a POW.
Then aliens descend upon Manhattan and Bucky is thrown back to Europe during World War II. Because why have one reality-shattering event when you can have two? But the 1940s weren't meant to handle Bucky Barnes, and beyond the cardinal rule of time travel (you can't go back in time and kill Hitler), there's a few things he's having trouble not messing up. Like Captain America's epic romance with Peggy Carter or the whole damn timeline.
The last thing he needs is to fall in love with Steve Rogers (although Howard Stark gaining proprietary rights to the iPhone around the same time he helped split the atom was a very close second).
