    Tommy’s always known — even back then, half-starved and hung over a fisherman’s shoulder like fresh kill — that no one, under any circumstances, could find out he was a werewolf.

    Not Tubbo, who can’t keep a secret to save his life and would probably blurt it out between bites of toast. Not the oracle with the clammy, corpse-pale hands who smells of grave dirt and always wants to “have a look” at his bones. And certainly not the strange new neighbour who has moved into Tommy’s unclaimed house near the woods.

    Don’t whistle after dark. Don’t follow lights in the fen. Don’t let them see the wolf in your eyes.

    Too bad Technoblade doesn’t agree with that.

    “How’d you get that bruise?”
    Tommy’s heart skips a beat. “My- I got in a fight,” he corrects quickly.
    “Nice try, kid, but no.” Professor Blade shifts. “Who hit you?” he asks quietly.
    “Nobody.” His heart pounds in his chest. Why isn’t he just saying it?
    “I’m tryin’ to help you, Tommy.”
    And- and that’s-
    Professor Blade doesn’t call any of the students by their first names. Tommy just assumed it was a personal policy of his. And nobody ever- no one offers to help.
    “My… my dad,” he whispers.

    Techno's eyes travel from Tommy's head to his toes, recognition didn't flit across his face like Tommy had anticipated. Nine years did change a person a great deal. Techno, who had only been fourteen the last time Tommy had seen him, was now a grown man, well muscled, all traces of boyishness gone from his body. Though he was still recognizably Techno. Tommy on the other hand had been six. A runt with bright eyes and a firy personality. Tommy wondered if the years had rendered him too changed for his brother to know him.

    Then it happened. Tommy saw the instant Techno put the pieces together. He stood up in a rush, his book falling to the floor in a heap, while his beer sloshed around in its bottle.

    "Tommy?"

    Tommy winds up at Techno's doorstep after nine years of separation. He'd found him online via article. Apparently Tommy's brother was a semi famous bullrider. Tommy didn't care about that though, he just needed somewhere to stay. A cabin out in the middle of Texas would just have to do.

    Death took Tommy away. Revival didn’t bring all of him back.

    Tommy just wants to be okay, but that seems impossible when the entire server is out to get him and death calls his name more often than life does. Sometimes, he's so far from okay that he wonders if trying is worth it.
     
    People show him that trying is worth it though, one flower at a time.

    The witch, the one who he remembers, the one he visits in his sleep— is so very, very loved by him. Because even after all this time, even after he hardly remembers them, hardly remembers their face, the way his heart aches and hands sweat and the way he wants— longs to be with them— cannot hide how he once felt.

    This witch used to mean everything to him. He would’ve given up freedom for them.

    And now Tommy is going to find them.

    Tommy, old enough and magic-healed, starts to remember a time before the little shop, before the stealing and the big red dragon. In his dream, a familiar voice haunts him, keeping him pin-balling between reality and the past.

    He finds a bit of the truth, then a little more, and his whole life changes.
