Abby’s heart started to race again because that’s just what her heart did when Kate smiled at her. Stupid heart.“Mm,” Kate moaned happily as she pulled the tart from the bag. “You’re too good to me.” The way she said it—Abby’s breath caught in her throat as if her lungs had forgotten how to work. All her vital organs were stupid around Kate.

Summary
West Lima Middle School was known for three things: terrible cafeteria food, a mysterious graffiti artist in the toilet block who was yet to be discovered, and an award-winning jazz band program that had been in existence since 1979. It wasn’t open to everyone; just a select group of seventh graders deemed trustworthy and conscientious enough to be part of a music ensemble and represent the school in public. The rest of the grade did gardening and cooking, which mostly involved their teachers trying to keep everyone in one piece for an hour, or, more accurately, trying to make sure Tyrone Spencer didn’t crack anyone else’s skull open.
Brittany, Santana, Quinn, Mike and Matt are among the few chosen to be a part of Ms Kowalczyk's seventh grade band class, and it's almost time for the Western Ohio Winter Band Showcase.
If only the kids could remember their sheet music...
