Summary
Lucina closes her eyes, the memories in her mind still fresh. It hurts like prodding at an open wound, to recall Robin over and over again. The shape of her face in the dusk as she lies next to her, the rhythmic rise and fall of her chest with her breathing, her eyes dark but alert and focused on her and only her, and the slight pull of her nimble fingers playing with stray strands of Lucina’s hair. “Should I not return tomorrow,” she said, voice gentle yet prepared, “find me in another life. I will be looking for you.”
The war is over. Robin has vanished. Lucina has promised her, no matter how many times she has to go through this life again, she will find her.

Ritsuko opens her mouth to make another snide comment. Misato sticks her fingers into Ristuko’s mouth, the bitterly sweet taste of the lube mixing in with her saliva. Obediently, she keeps sucking on her fingers and the wet sounds of her mouth fill the room for the next few minutes. Misato relishes having control over her, thoroughly moving her fingers against her tongue before she pulls them out.
“You were saying?” she asks, satisfied with herself and Ritsuko wipes her mouth with the back of her hand.
“...shut up and fuck me”, she demands and Misato complies.(The easiest way to deal with mommy issues is to fuck your coworker with daddy issues. No, this is not healthy. Ritsuko doesn't care.)

It's 1999. The airport is a funny place to have this conversation. Leorio’s face is lit by one gigantic advertisement for some soft drink that has been popular this summer. In front of them is a store front for a popular fast-food restaurant that wouldn’t feel misplaced within a shopping mall. No one seems to notice them; they're hidden within the crowd.
Kurapika grabs Leorio and yanks him down by the collar.
“Listen to me, I won’t be going anywhere.”

It’s exactly 2:57 am when Kurapika shows up at Leorio’s door, unannounced and unprompted. It takes Leorio a few minutes of gawking at his friend for him to regain the mental capacity needed to parse who’s standing in front of him.
“Kurapika what the fuck. It’s 3am. Normal people sleep at this time.”
“Well, you’re not asleep”, Kurapika says and drags him down the three singular stair steps that separate them.Twenty minutes later, they’re barrelling down the highway in a car that sounds and feels like it could fall apart at any given second. Leorio is fiddling around with the broken radio. Kurapika is driving 20 over the speed limit. They don't have a drivers license.
(In which Kurapika kidnaps Leorio on a road trip at 3 am to see the sunrise because they have issues they need to work through.)

He doesn’t even need to look to know that Leorio is opening his mouth in protest. Before he can, he continues “And neither do you deserve me.”Leorio shuts his mouth. Kurapika doesn’t turn to look if he understands. It’s fine. They’re fine. It’s nothing new. This is yet another one of those things he is sure he cannot express in words but to him, it’s a fact.
Just like the sky is blue and birds are silent at night, Leorio and Kurapika do not deserve each other.
