But then he went to see Grian for the first time since his return, and that was when Mumbo felt it: fear. A deep, primal sort of fear that went all the way to his bones. He looked at Grian and for a brief moment could feel nothing but that pure terror, could see nothing but a putrid purple, nothing but eye upon eye upon eye upon eye–
And then in an instant it was gone, as if it had never been there in the first place. There was no fear, no purple, no eyes. Just Grian, smiling and welcoming Mumbo home. Acting like he totally hadn’t tried and failed to prank Mumbo while he was away. Totally not.
Mumbo shook off the remaining shock and smiled. What reason could he have had to be afraid?
Or a fic in which Grian joins the Watchers while already on Hermitcraft, told from the perspective of those around him watching the change.
