“Ohhhh yeah,” Barty said, gesturing vaguely. “Like, across his face. All very ’I brooded in exile for ten years and studied the sword but also literature.’”
Evan’s expression shifted to barely concealed intrigue. “Huh.”
Regulus pressed his forehead to the window. “Kill me. Please, whatever god exists, just kill me now.”
Barty made a theatrical gasp. “Oh my god! This is perfect. Regulus Black, the perfectly pressed, buttoned-up royal of the English department…has a thing for trenchcoat-wearing, soulful-eyed professors who look like they wrestle their inner demons between lectures.”
Dorcas nodded slowly. “A deeply artistic professor-student slowburn.”
Evan cracked a tiny smile. “That does sound like something you’d write, Reg.”
Or…Regulus Black is absolutely fucked because he is attracted to his professor

“Not good,” Remus said tightly, already reaching for his wand.
“Bloody hell,” Sirius muttered, eyes wide.
Before anyone could react further, three sigils tore free from the page like molten brands. It floated in the air before James, Lily, and Regulus. The light engulfed them, wrapping around their figures in blinding arcs.
“Don’t move!” Lily shouted, even as her outline blurred in the glow.
Regulus tried to wrench himself free, but the magic caught him fast, pulling him upright. His glare shot toward James through the searing light. “This is your fault—”
And then the glow swallowed them whole.
The dormitory vanished.

Every sound in the hall seems to drain away for a heartbeat. Reg freezes, pulse thudding in their ears.
Evan groans, dragging a hand down his face. “Merlin’s sake, Pan…Sorry, she’s convinced she can tell the future.”

It is not until the Order of the Phoenix is re-formed, and regroups at Grimmauld Place, that they see each other again for the first time in years.

Albus leans over her shoulder. “Is that-”
“James Potter. Yes.”
“Sitting at the Slytherin table.”
“Indeed.” she agrees, taking a careful sip of her tea.
Albus hums, settling back into his seat.
She continues watching as James reaches over, swiping a slice of half-eaten toast from Regulus’ plate and taking a grossly large bite out of it.
Regulus, true to his nature, swats James over the head and then proceeds to lean closer to the older boy in order to readjust his tie. James lets him, as if this is a practiced thing between them – perhaps it is. And, when Regulus then steals his breakfast back from the boy, James moves to plant a kiss to the poor Slytherin’s cheek.
“How long has that been going on?” Albus suddenly pipes up again, speaking around a mouthful of toast because, whilst he may be the Headmaster, he has no shame.
Minerva scoffs at him, something that goes either unnoticed or ignored by her friend. “How should I know, Albus?”
He shrugs. “You have your ways.”

James swallows before rushing through his words. “We both want to date you. Like together. Like us three. Polygamy.”
“Polyamory,” Lily corrects.
It’s clear by the look on his face that Regulus has no idea what that means. Regulus looks spooked, but after a moment he nods and softly asks; “both?”
James immediately blushes and stumbles for the right words. “It doesn’t have to be like that. We can work something out. I’m— it’s just a crush so I don’t think it’s going to be a big deal.”
James feels like he is going to faint. He tries to leave but Regulus grabs a hold of him before he can take the first step. “You want to date me.” Is that a question? A statement?
“Uh, Lily—“
“I’m not asking about Lily."
Lily snorts from besides them. James shoots her a look to reprimand her for how little she is helping. When James has a bloody heart attack, he is going to laugh at her face. Then he will kiss her and maybe gather the courage to kiss Regulus before his stupid unfortunate and untimely passing.
