Then, Kacchan says, “Hey, Izuku. Why do you want to be a hero?”
And Izuku can only blink at him. “What else would I be?”, he asks, not understanding. Kacchan doesn’t seem to have an answer to that.
(Years down the line, the words come back to haunt him. Because while Izuku accepted his fate as a quirkless person, that itch under his skin would keep him awake and raw at night. What else would I be? What else can I be, if I’m not this?)
Izuku doesn’t tell him that day. He waits until the term starts, invites Kacchan over to his house after school, and tells him there, with his eyes closed tightly.
The scorch marks never leave his floor.
Or, Izuku through the years. Featuring heroes, humans, and a whole lot of running.

The world of heroes is quick to adapt to surprises, but Pro Hero Entropy’s (very premature) retirement announcement throws almost everyone for a pretty impressive loop.
