“Athena,” Buck croaks, and shit he thinks he might actually have said it on a half-sob because there’s a gasp on the other end of the line.
“What’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
Buck shakes his head before realizing that Athena can’t see him. “I’m fine,” he says, taking in a shaky breath and letting it out in equally shaky measures. “I just…missed you.”
...Or Lawsuit AU. Buck falls sick, maybe learns a little about isolation, and calls Athena. Things begin to get worked out.

Eddie’s head snaps up.
Maddie. Dispatch cadence – clean, clipped, controlled.
Chimney’s eyes flick to the radio, then to Eddie, before he answers.
“118, go ahead.”
Maddie continues, steady as a metronome.
“We have a reported MVC on the Fletcher Drive Bridge, repeat: multiple-vehicle collision. Units en route have visual confirmation of two cars at the scene.”
Eddie’s pulse stutters. He leans forward without meaning to, the seatbelt tugging tight across his chest.
Maddie keeps going, all professionalism, no tremor, until she hits the words that break.
“One of the vehicles is… a Jeep that went over the railing into the water.”

Bloodwarm hands move over his chest. He’s sweating, he thinks. He should know that, right? If he’s sweating? His brain tries to take stock of itself, but as it does, two fingers pinch his left nipple, hard enough that it sends shocks ricocheting through Buck’s entire body—it’s the sharpest thing he’s felt so far. He looks up, mouth parted, exhaling slow. He thinks he moans. He likes it, he thinks, or he normally would. He's supposed to.
“Hey, man, I’m—” His tongue feels too big for his mouth—heavy in a way it never has before. He swallows thickly and finishes shakily, “I'm really drunk.”
The guy shushes him again. “It’s okay, Buck. Don’t worry about a thing, sweetheart.”
